Corrosion Management

From AC interference and cathodic protection to internal corrosion programs and failure investigation — practical, standards-based solutions for complex corrosion challenges.

Corrosion doesn't
wait. Neither
should your program.

Corrosion is the leading threat to pipeline and facility integrity in the energy sector. Left unmanaged, it drives unplanned shutdowns, regulatory findings, and costly repairs. Managed well, it becomes a predictable, controllable risk — one that good engineering can systematically reduce over time.

We bring over 25 years of hands-on corrosion engineering experience across pipelines, tanks, compressor stations, and processing facilities in Canada and internationally. Our work spans the full corrosion management lifecycle: from threat identification and monitoring program design through to engineering assessments, mitigation, and post-incident root cause analysis. We hold the highest AMPP credentials in both corrosion (Corrosion Specialist) and cathodic protection (CP4), and we apply that depth to every engagement.

Specialized services across the corrosion management lifecycle.

AC Interference Modeling & Mitigation
AC interference from high-voltage power lines is an increasingly common and underappreciated threat to pipeline integrity and personnel safety. We perform detailed AC interference modeling to quantify induced voltages and currents along affected pipeline corridors, identify high-risk zones, and design effective mitigation systems — including gradient control mats, grounding systems, and interference bonds — in alignment with NACE SP0177 and CAN/CSA C22.3 No. 6.
External & Internal Direct Assessment (ECDA / ICDA)
Direct assessment is an essential tool for pipelines where in-line inspection is not practical. We plan and execute ECDA and ICDA programs following NACE SP0502 and SP0206, integrating above-ground survey data, operational history, and field excavation findings to identify and prioritize integrity threats. Our assessments produce defensible results that satisfy regulatory requirements and support proactive maintenance decisions.
Internal Corrosion Program Development & Corrosion Rate Analysis
Effective internal corrosion management requires more than corrosion inhibitor injection — it requires a coherent program built on threat identification, monitoring, data analysis, and engineering response. We develop and review internal corrosion control programs for liquid and gas pipelines, and perform rigorous corrosion rate analysis using coupon data, ER probes, and operational parameters to support integrity decisions and chemical treatment optimization.
Cathodic Protection Design, Evaluation & Troubleshooting
As AMPP CP4 specialists — the highest level of cathodic protection certification — we provide expert CP design for new pipelines and facilities, evaluate existing CP system performance, and troubleshoot complex interference and underprotection problems. Our work covers impressed current and sacrificial anode systems for buried pipelines, storage tanks, offshore structures, and above-grade equipment, with full documentation to CSA Z662 and NACE standards.
Coatings Assessment & Specification
Coatings are the first line of defence against external corrosion, but coating degradation, disbondment, and improper application create the conditions for concentrated attack that cathodic protection alone cannot always address. We assess existing coating condition through above-ground surveys and excavation inspection, evaluate compatibility between coating systems and CP, and specify appropriate coatings for new construction, rehabilitation, and special service conditions.
Corrosion Failure Investigation & Root Cause Analysis
When a leak, rupture, or unexpected corrosion feature occurs, understanding why is as important as responding quickly. We conduct systematic failure investigations using physical evidence, operational history, laboratory data, and corrosion science to establish root causes and contributing factors. Our investigation reports are structured to support regulatory notification requirements, insurance claims, engineering remediation decisions, and program improvement — and we have experience presenting findings to regulators and senior management.

Why LCI

Credentials that go
beyond the
standard.

  • AMPP Corrosion Specialist & CP4. We hold the highest AMPP technical designation in the corrosion field, that require years of demonstrated experience and rigorous examination.
  • International field experience. Our corrosion engineering background spans Canadian and international operations, including offshore and onshore pipeline, tank, and terminal systems across very different operating environments — giving us perspective that purely domestic experience doesn't provide.
  • Standards fluency. As active participants in CSA Z662 technical subcommittees, we understand not just what the standards say, but why — which means we help clients meet requirements in ways that actually improve integrity, not just satisfy paperwork.
  • We design programs, not just assessments. Many corrosion consultants produce a report and move on. We help clients build the monitoring programs, data workflows, and decision frameworks that make corrosion management systematic and sustainable.
