Risk Assessment & Framework Development
We design and implement risk management frameworks tailored to the complexity and regulatory environment of your operations — from threat identification and likelihood analysis through consequence modelling and mitigation prioritization. Our frameworks draw on recognized methodologies and are built to integrate with your existing data systems and management processes. We also support companies that need to update or defend existing frameworks against regulatory scrutiny.
Fitness-for-Service Evaluations (API 579)
When inspection reveals metal loss, cracking, dents, or other damage, a fitness-for-service (FFS) evaluation determines whether the component can continue in service safely, and under what conditions. We perform FFS assessments in accordance with API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 for pipelines, pressure vessels, and piping systems — providing clear, technically defensible conclusions that support repair/replace/continue decisions and regulatory filings.
ILI Data Analysis & API 1163 Validation
In-line inspection is one of the most powerful tools in pipeline integrity, but the value lies in interpreting the data correctly. We provide independent ILI data analysis, tool performance evaluation to API 1163, and dig program design — including the statistical frameworks required to establish confidence in feature sizing and tool performance claims. We have experience working with multiple ILI vendors and technologies across liquid and gas pipelines.
Dent Strain Analysis
Dents are among the most consequential mechanical damage features identified by ILI, particularly when they interact with welds, girth welds, or corrosion. We perform dent strain analysis using field profile data and finite element methods to assess fatigue life, establish safe operating pressures, and determine whether immediate remediation is required. Our analyses follow ASME, PRCI, and regulatory guidance applicable to Canadian and US pipelines.
Asset Integrity Program Development & Auditing
A mature integrity management program is more than a collection of inspection records — it is a documented system of processes, accountabilities, and decision criteria that evolves with your asset base. We develop integrity management programs from the ground up, or review and strengthen existing ones, ensuring alignment with CSA Z662, regulatory expectations, and industry best practice. We also provide independent auditing services to identify gaps before regulators do.
Failure Investigation & Root Cause Analysis
Pipeline and facility failures rarely have a single cause. We conduct thorough root cause analyses that examine physical evidence, design history, operating conditions, inspection records, and management system factors to establish why a failure occurred and what systemic changes are needed to prevent recurrence. Our reports are structured to meet regulatory notification requirements and support both remediation planning and program improvement.
Engineering Assessments
Regulators, insurers, and operators frequently require formal engineering assessments to support operational decisions, regulatory applications, incident responses, or design changes. We prepare and deliver engineering assessments for a wide range of pipeline and facility scenarios — including pressure containment evaluations, span and support assessments, repair method justifications, and condition-based remaining life analyses. Each assessment is documented to the standard required for regulatory submission or third-party review, and is defensible under scrutiny.
Professional Engineering Review & Stamping
Many organizations — particularly smaller operators, inspection companies, and specialized service providers — produce technically sound work but lack in-house professional engineering capacity to review and seal it. We provide independent P.Eng. review and stamping of cathodic protection reports, engineering drawings, integrity assessments, and technical submissions. Beyond the stamp, we bring genuine engineering scrutiny to the review — identifying assumptions, gaps, and presentation issues before the document reaches a regulator or client. This is quality control that adds value, not just a signature.
